God, I Need You

Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help.
(Psalm 28:2, NIV)

My God, I cry out to You from my smallness and darkness.
Help me, Lord.
Forgive my self-centeredness.
Take me to You.
Absorb my life into Yours.

I want You.
I feel the need in my heart and try to verbalize it
but don’t know how.

Come and take me, Creator Lord.
Come in and make me entirely love, eternal Savior.
Purify me in love,
not to please me,
but to please You wholly and entirely.

Swallow my smallness in Your greatness,
in Your length and depth and height.

Swallow my concerns in utter praise to You.
Swallow anxiety in thanksgiving.
Swallow wanting in giving.

Take me entirely into You, my Lord Jesus.

Father, we are so proud,
blind,
stubborn, and
small in this
wide universe of reality.
We search for You,
all the while we live and
move and
exist
entirely in You.

Neediness

Need has come to bless us once again.
Heaviness and grief descend
to lift our load of self-deceit.
They shine their light to show us just
how vast our insufficiency,
how constant our inconstancy,
how fragile our illusions of well-being and control.

Problems:
invitations,
silent whispers from a Friend –
“Remember?
Remember Me?
Come and rest in Me again.”

My Lord, I praise You
for the longing of this moment’s need.
Let it remain —
not the need, but the neediness,
the neediness for You.
Let it stretch and spread
through all I think I can and cannot do.
Let it reach for You
and all You are,
for all Your life and love can be in me.

For the plenty of Your presence,
let the hunger,
let the neediness remain.

My grace is sufficient for you,
for my power is made perfect in weakness.
(2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV)

We Need You

John 14:10 

Our Father exalted,
holy,
complete in wisdom, power, and love,
forever good,
forever true,
we need You!

I need You.
My dear spouse needs You.
Each of our precious children needs You.
Our pastor needs You.
Each friend,
each unique member of my family needs You.
Everyone I know,
everyone I encounter,
every individual in this sea of humanity
needs You.

O Father, we need Your light in our darkness.
We need Your truth,
Your rightness,
Your glory shining through
our struggling and inconsistent lives.
Lord God, we need Your holiness.
We need Your peace.
We need the patient, selfless love that only You can give.

But Father, more than anything else, we need You.
Help us need You as Christ needed You.
He depended on You constantly and
trusted You with all His heart.
He was completely Yours,
so You were completely His.

Father, in Jesus Christ You are ours as well.
You are ours
as we are Yours.
You are ours as we
trust You,
follow You, and
simply, deeply need You.
