Unbroken Oneness

A prayer response to Revelation 21:5-8,
all things new and God all-in-all

Father, in the new creation, the source of the entire
glorious transformation
will be Your
full,
immediate,
personal,
undiminished,
unveiled presence.
Your life force,
Your unbridled joy,
will make all things new.
You will be
the life,
the splendor, and
the holiness of the new heaven and earth.

We Your people will finally
see You and
live in You and
know You
for what You have always been:
the Beginning and the End,
the Source and the Goal.
All of life,
every breath, will be lived
from You,
through You, and
to You.

As Your true children,
all that is will be ours
in You.
But our greatest inheritance will be
You, Yourself.
As You are the joy, peace, and sufficiency of Your Son Jesus,
You will be our joy, peace, and sufficiency,
constantly, completely, forever.

Heaven will be
unbroken,
unclouded,
unhindered,
uninterrupted
oneness with You.

Our Joining

A prayer response to Revelation 21:1-4,
the holy city and the new creation

O Father, the new creation!
How we long for it!
All the root of sin and
all the fruit of sin
will be gone
completely and forever.

But surely the crown of the new creation
will be the crown of the first creation:
Your people,
made in Your own image,
breath of Your own breath,
life of Your own life.
We who were once
stained by sin,
bound by death,
rebellious,
far away and
unfaithful,
will be the pure and glorious bride of
Your own dear Son.
As His bride, we will not arise from the earth but will
descend from heaven itself,
perfectly prepared and
beautifully adorned
by You.

In Jesus Christ, Your holy and loving Son, we will be
lovingly,
intimately joined with You
in perfect, constant, eternal union,
with all trace of separation gone forever.
One with You, Father.
One in Your Son, Jesus Christ.

O Lord, how we long for His return!
How we yearn for our joining!

Kingdom of Peace

The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together;
and a little child will lead them.
The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
The infant will play near the hole of the cobra,
and the young child put his hand into the viper’s nest.
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD
as waters cover the sea. (Isaiah 11:6-9, NIV)

Peace begins in God.
It begins with His completeness in Himself and
with the love and perfect unity among the Father, Son, and Spirit.

Peace comes to us in Christ.
He who is one with the Father and one with the Spirit
became one of us.
And as we simply trust Him, like children,
He becomes one with us.

When Christ has finished what He has started,
when we are one with Him, we will be
one with the Father and
one with the Spirit as well.
As we are one with them,
we will also be one with each other,
and the peace of God will be perfect and complete.
Creation itself will then be transformed.
As Romans 8 says:

The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed.
For the creation was subjected to frustration…
in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and
brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. (vv.19-21, NIV)

Peace will reign in all creation:
no more disharmony; only
unity,
contentment,
completeness, and
well-being;
full, open, fruitful, unimpaired relationships throughout all reality.
Just imagine!

Beauty and truth,
pleasure and purity,
humanity and holiness,
justice and mercy,
will be full and in perfect harmony,
just as they have always been full and in perfect harmony in God.
Art and science,
celebration and reflection,
giving and receiving,
worship and play
will simply be facets of being in Him constantly and completely.

Everyone will be
beautiful in their God-breathed individuality.
We will be
like Him,
with Him, and
complete in Him
forever.

O come, Prince of Peace!

Your Kingdom Come, Father!

The mall near our house isn’t doing well. As a business person myself, familiar with the pain of financial struggle, I empathize. It saddens me to see so many store spaces unrented and so many shops crammed with merchandise but empty of customers. The mall’s attractive façade puts on a smiling face, but its emptiness sings a mournful song of failure and loss.

But today, Father, You whisper to me that this is the story of all our world. Separated from You, separated from its Creator and His life, His wisdom, and His power, this world is bankrupt. It is doomed to struggle, emptiness, bitter disappointment, and utter failure.

But I hear new management is coming to the mall, and they have a vision. They have a plan, and they are working. They hope to transform this shell into a bustling, useful, successful shopping area.

You are working as well, our Father. You have promised that You will transform our dying world into a new creation, overflowing with life, love, fulfillment, fruitfulness, and joy. We have seen You work before, and we know You always accomplish Your purpose.

Your Kingdom come, Father. Your Kingdom come!

One with Your Creator

imagefrom the devotional book, PICTURES OF GOD

Ephesians 2

Remember who you were and what you were like
before God forgave you and began renewing you.
Remember the sudden change that happened in a moment.
Remember the gradual change that is still going on as you trust Him.
Remember how imperfect and inconsistent you still are.

Look ahead.
Imagine being one with your Creator.
The relationship He intended is complete and constant.
His power has done all its work.
His wisdom has had its way.
His love is satisfied and smiling.
You are one with Him.
The glory of the Living Christ is shining from every corner of your being,
with no shadows and
no hidden places.
You are one with Jesus Christ.
We are all one with Him.
His beautiful creation is complete.

Jesus Christ, the sovereign Word of God,
God’s will in action,
God’s agent in creation,
is recreating us into His own perfect image,
the image of our Creator Himself.
Our future is in Him.
Our destiny is in Him.

I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6, NASB)
